The transformation
Originally a typical Umbrian stone house, the villa has undergone a remarkable two-year renovation. The transformation was led by a seasoned Australian boutique real estate developer with over 30 years of experience, bringing together international vision and local craftsmanship. Much of the villa’s soul lies in its details: all stonework has been executed by Corneli, a four-generation family business, while numerous local artisans contributed their expertise to create a home that feels both authentic and elevated.
The interior
Inside, the villa unfolds like a curated gallery. Each room reveals a unique design surprise, reflecting the owner’s passion for detail and aesthetics. Carefully selected international artworks—ranging from pieces by French designer Christian Liaigre to mosaics by Bisazza and creations by the eccentric Italian designer Mamo—add character and sophistication throughout.
The main house
The main house is spread across two levels. On the ground floor, guests are welcomed into a spacious living area featuring plush seating, Apple TV, and a cozy open fireplace with an intimate seating corner. The fully equipped kitchen showcases top-quality Italian design and premium appliances, ideal for both casual meals and gourmet experiences. This level also hosts one double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, as well as an optional nanny’s room with its own facilities.
Upstairs, five beautifully appointed double bedrooms each offer air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms with showers, the penthouse with bathtub, ensuring comfort and privacy for all guests.
The dependance
Close to the main house, a romantic dependance provides an additional private retreat. With a double bed, open-plan bathroom featuring a bathtub, and a kitchenette, it is perfect for couples or guests seeking extra independence.
The outdoors
Outdoors, the lifestyle is quintessentially Umbrian. The 6 x 12 meter infinity pool appears to merge seamlessly with the valley below, offering unforgettable sunset views. The adjacent pool house is equipped with an outdoor kitchen and refrigerator for refreshing drinks, while shaded lounge areas invite long, relaxed afternoons. A pergola nearby sets the stage for al fresco dining under the stars.

Owner’s Reflection – Clifton House, Monte Argentario
The sea has always guided our lives.
For years, we sailed the northern waters of Europe, along the rugged coasts of England and Ireland, carried by wind, tide, and a spirit of adventure. But it was the Mediterranean that ultimately captured our hearts. After moving our boat to Follonica, we often found ourselves drawn south by a gentle northerly breeze, arriving almost effortlessly at Monte Argentario.
Each approach felt like destiny.
One evening, invited to dinner near Cala Piccola, we saw the house for the first time. The sun was setting, the coastline glowing in soft gold and rose. In that moment, we knew. It was not simply the beauty of the location — suspended between sky and sea — but the emotion it stirred within us. It felt both timeless and full of possibility.
Restoring the house became a labour of love. We embraced its character, its challenges, and its extraordinary setting, shaping it gently and respectfully into what it is today.
We named it Clifton House, in memory of Clifton Beach in South Africa, where an important chapter of life began. Both places share the same rare magic — light, sea, and a profound sense of freedom.
Clifton House is more than a home.
