A holiday in the Maremma certainly includes visiting its excellent restaurants

Today I would like to show you my very personal insider tips for Tuscany so that your Tuscany holiday by the sea gets the culinary highlights it deserves.

Saturnia

The family business I Due Cippi is located above the Terme di Saturnia, in the center of the village.

As soon as you enter the restaurant, you will be captivated by its very special scenography – the steak shop window on the left, the huge open grill straight ahead. It’s all here, a real grill culture with steak from different regions of the world.

Montemerano

Located at the foot of Montemerano is the Trattoria Verdiana of Sergio and his wife, which they have been running for their whole lives. We were attracted to the curved lettering of the restaurant sign after a day in the warm springs of Saturnia. The lovely table decorations on the terrace caught our eye on arrival. The open fireplace in the restaurant is impressive and reminds us of the past in this house. Sergio is responsible for the service and his wife for the kitchen. The dimmed light in the house creates a romantic mood. We ordered several courses and each new one was better than the one before. A place to fall in love. Porto Santo Stefano

With a wonderful view over Porto Santo Stefano and the sea, the Trattoria dai Frati only offers meat dishes. Here you stick to the essentials and this makes it the best address in town. In season, it is advisable to make a reservation in good time to guarantee of the coveted seats on the terrace with a sea view.

Castiglione della Pescaia

A Florentine in the Maremma. The easiest way to get to the heart of La Terra di Nello. The restaurateur from Florence runs the best meat restaurant in Castiglione, just outside the center. It is best to be given a place in the adjacent garden, here the scent of grilled meat will thrill your nose and make your anticipation even greater. For the third time in a row, I’m celebrating my birthday in this restaurant.

Tirli

You probably haven’t heard of Tirli often, a very small place in the hills, about 8 km from the sea with a breathtaking view of the valley. The Locanda la Luna is in a central location with decor as authentic and blunt as the menu. It is the only place in the area where you can get a real “Florentina”.

With these Maremma restaurants the beach vacation in Tuscany can begin.

My advice

The Maremma produces world-famous top wines. It makes sense to take a closer look at the best at a tasting. Rocca di Frassinello has one of the (architecturally) most impressive wine cellars.
